Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering in Automation from Tsinghua University, Master of Science in Physical Chemistry from West Virginia University, USA, and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, Purdue University. He previously taught at the Biomedical Engineering Department of Purdue University. He has served as Director of the Department of Precision Instrument and Opto-Electronics Engineering and Deputy Director of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University, as well as Deputy Registrar and Director of the Academic Affairs Office. Currently, he is the Dean of Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and the Dean of Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute.
