From March 26 to 28, the Overseas Academic Exchange Forums, organized by Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), were successfully held in Macao and Hong Kong. Over 210 students from different majors participated in academic exchanges at the University of Macau (UM), Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), engaging in in-depth dialogues with local scholars and industry experts.
On March 26, the first forum on biomedical theme kicked off at UM. Professor Zheng Ying and Professor Wan Jianbo from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences at UM discussed advancements in pharmaceutical technology with over 40 faculty members and students. Participants visited the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and the Macao Centre for Testing of Chinese Medicine at UM.
On March 27, the second forum on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was held at MUST. Over 30 faculty and students attended MUST's anniversary celebration activities, including the Presidents' Forum, High-level Dialogues, and Special Series Lectures. Scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, and HKUST discussed the theme of AI Technology Innovation and Application. In the Special Series Lecture session, David Gubbins, Fellow of the Royal Society and Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, delivered a special lecture topic on The Earth's Magnetism, sparking great interest among students. During the interactive session, students actively engaged with experts to explore the future development trends of AI technology.
On March 28, the third forum on sustainable urban development took place at HKUST. Over 160 faculty and students participated in discussions on topics such as the urban heat island effect, marine engineering, carbon neutrality, waste management, and the circular economy. Through thematic reports and academic dialogues, participants jointly explored new pathways for sustainable development.
During the events, Associate Dean Zuo Jian’e of Tsinghua SIGS engaged in dialogues with Rector Song Yonghua of UM, Associate Dean of Engineering (Research and Graduate Studies) Albert Chi Shing CHUNG of HKUST, and Council Chairman Derek Tinyol Chui of the Macau Industry-University-Research Collaboration Association. They had in-depth exchanges on talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.
Students who participated in the event said that the three-day exchange enhanced their interdisciplinary research capabilities. They brought back not only knowledge but also a global academic cooperation network, which laid a foundation for their future academic research and career development.
The Overseas Academic Exchange Forums were organized by the Office of Global Affairs. In the future, Tsinghua SIGS will continue to build platforms to encourage and support more students to study and exchange overseas, aligning with its mission to the cultivate talents with a global perspective and interdisciplinary capabilities.
