Kyoto University and SIGS conduct short-term internship exchange

Recently, a delegation from Kyoto University led by Associate Professor Hidaka Taira and Assistant Professor Takeuchi Haruka visited Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) for a short-term academic exchange. Ten Japanese students conducted activities with students from Tsinghua SIGS such as lab tours, environmental protection enterprises visits, and cultural immersion activities.

At the panel discussion, Zuo Jian’e, Tsinghua SIGS Associate Dean and Professor of Institute of Environment and Ecology (iEE), welcomed the delegation, noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of collaborative partnership. Professor Takeuchi outlined Cooperative Research and Education Center for Environment Technology (CRECET)'s growth milestones, innovative education models, and corporate support initiatives, while reviewing the collaborative achievements in recent years.

Welcomed by Guan Yuntao, Associate Dean of iEE, the delegation visited iEE's testing platforms and research laboratories, gaining in-depth understanding of various advanced instrumentation and laboratory operational mechanisms.

The delegation conducted a campus tour of Sun Yat-sen University's Zhuhai Campus and on-site research activities


Faculty and students also visited laboratories at Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. iEE Assistant Professor Chen Si presented an academic report and introduced the development of Tsinghua SIGS. Moreover,the faculty and students gained a profound understanding of the application of various environmental engineering technologies in Shenzhen and Zhuhai in fields such as sewage treatment, solid waste treatment, and watershed management during the enterprise internship.

The delegation experienced cultural exchange activities


During the cultural exchange activities, faculty and students experienced traditional incense rituals under expert’s guidance, they also enjoyed traditional musical performances, sampled local specialty tea and snacks, and toured characteristic ancient dwellings of Guangdong, immersing themselves in an authentic cultural experience of traditional Chinese heritage.To wrap up, students from both schools gave group presentations sharing their exchange experiences, bringing the program to a successful close.

Kyoto University and Tsinghua SIGS initiated collaboration in 2005 by establishing Cooperative Research and Education Center for Environment Technology (CRECET). Over the past two decades, CRECET organized more than 40 exchange visits. This event coincides with the 20th anniversary of CRECET, not only deepening mutual cultural understanding and academic exchange but also laying a solid foundation for future collaboration. Moving forward, both schools will continue to work hand in hand to advance the internationalization of education and cultivate outstanding talents with global perspectives.
