As the Chinese New Year begins, we embrace this fresh start and extend warm greetings on behalf of Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) to all faculty, students, staff, alumni, and friends.
Looking back, the Year of the Dragon was a defining year for Tsinghua SIGS, with new goals established for the next phase of development, as well as remarkable progress and transformation made throughout the year. We launched several key initiatives including the establishment of the AI discipline, the “Peak Program” for research, the “Double Ten Plan” for student education, and an ambitious recruiting plan for international students. These combined efforts positioned SIGS at the frontier of Tsinghua University’s reform to rise among the world’s leading institutions.
Our achievement was well recognized nationally and internationally in the Year of the Dragon. Seven academic disciplines at SIGS are now ranked top 1% worldwide by ESI, with the Material Science at the top 1.25‰. Twelve SIGS faculty members (5.24% of total) were among the “Highly Cited Researchers” and 33 publications were ESI highly-cited papers. A total of 66 individuals have now received national-level recognitions, with 10 new this year. We secured research funding exceeding 600M CNY, with 84 projects newly funded by national government agencies. We successfully obtained large-scale research grants including 6 from National Key R&D Plan, 3 Guangdong Pearl River Team Awards, and 2 Shenzhen Peacock Team Awards. Our faculty also received 51 prestigious awards for research and technology translation as well as 19 for teaching. Our students also received 76 Outstanding Theses Awards, another record high in history.
The transformation achieved in the Year of the Dragon stands as a testament to the spirit of SIGS community, characterized as being diligent, resilient, and collaborative. As we now enter the Year of the Snake, we embrace changes as an opportunity to create an even brighter future, while remaining steadfast in our commitment to the core values of integrity and innovation as well as core principles of academic excellence and global engagement, which have always guided the development of SIGS.
In the Year of the Snake, we will continue our commitment to attracting top-tier researchers and students worldwide to join us.
We sincerely wish a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year in 2025 to all faculty, students, staff, alumni, and friends of Tsinghua SIGS.
