On December 17, Hello Mentors Event was held in the Information Building. The event was hosted by the Institute of Materials Research and organized by the Office of Faculty and Staff Affairs. As representatives of the faculty, Safakath Karuthedath and Wei Guodan engaged in in-depth exchanges with over ten Chinese and international students from the Materials major on topics such as academic research, mentor-student communication, and campus life.
Safakath Karuthedath shared his experiences of studying and choosing a career, advising students to discover their interests, set clear goals, lower their preset expectations, and broaden their horizons. He encouraged international students to leverage their strengths to integrate into campus life. He also noted the suggestions regarding the internationalization of the school's educational development, hoping that Chinese and international students could learn from each other and grow together.
Wei Guodan emphasized that communication is the most important, recommending that students communicate their ideas with their mentors more often, and be adept at seeking help from teachers and peers. She encouraged students to cultivate scientific literacy, focus on the laws and scientific significance behind experimental data, explore new ideas, and earn their academic achievement step by step.
The atmosphere of the on-site exchange was relaxed and enjoyable. Master’s student Nigar Afandiyeva said, The insights of the professors helped us broaden our thinking, view problems from a new perspective, and see challenges as opportunities for growth. I am deeply inspired and motivated to surpass myself, further clarifying my goals and direction on the academic path. I am deeply grateful for this event. Lu Tongtong said, The experiences shared by the professors were very inspiring. Communicating with international students broadened my horizons and made me think about how to better integrate into a multicultural environment. I am full of expectations for my future academic and daily life.
The Hello Mentors events, featuring a combination of senior and young teachers sharing and exchanging with students, have provided guidance to students' questions. The event has been held for 21 sessions and is popular with SIGS teachers and students.
