Neighborhoods of Asia Exhibition now on display at HKUST

On October 1, the Neighborhoods of Asia photo exhibition, jointly organized by the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS), and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), opened at the Foyer Exhibition Space, Shaw Auditorium of HKUST. Featuring 12 prize-winning and 48 shortlisted photos from the Neighborhoods of Asia photo contest, the exhibit offers a captivating glimpse into the diverse cultures, traditions, and stories of Asia.

The Neighborhoods of Asia photo contest was part of the AUA's “Embracing Asian Diversity” Photo Contest Series, hosted by AUA and Tsinghua SIGS in early 2024. In total, 950 entries were submitted by nearly 200 faculty, staff and students from all 15 AUA member universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, HKUST, The University of Tokyo, Seoul National University, National University of Singapore, Universitas Indonesia, Universiti Malaya, Chulalongkorn University, University of Yangon, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, University of Colombo, King Saud University, United Arab Emirates University, and Nazarbayev University. With the judging panel’s evaluation, 18 entries stood out, including 12 award-winning photographs and 6 Honorable Mentions.

The Neighborhoods of Asia exhibition presents 60 outstanding photos. The displayed photos vividly capture the vibrancy and diversity of Asian neighborhoods, demonstrating their impact on the world. Through this exhibition, we hope to inspire deeper connections and understanding of the diverse yet interconnected communities that make Asia so extraordinary.

The Neighborhoods of Asia photo exhibition, which is open to the public, will be displayed at HKUST from October 1 to November 7, 2024. This exhibition marks the third collaboration between Tsinghua SIGS and AUA in the 'Embracing Asian Diversity' photo exhibition series, following the previous two themes of “Community of Life: Biodiversity Through the Lens” and “Splendor of Asian Cultural Heritage”. The exhibition series aims to showcase Asian youth's understanding and respect for Asia’s rich culture.
