The Tsinghua SIGS 2023 Global Summer School (GSS) came to a successful close on July 6. Prof. Jian'e Zuo, associate dean of Tsinghua SIGS, Mr. Zhenyi Ma, director of the Office of Global Affairs, Prof. Yuxiong Huang, deputy director of the Office of Academic Affairs, Prof. Jong Mui Choo from the Institute of Environment and Ecology, and Prof. Zhongkun Ouyang from Institute for Ocean Engineering attended the closing ceremony.
SIGS Associate Dean Jian'e Zuo
At the closing ceremony, Prof. Jian'e Zuo expressed his gratitude to all GSS participants for their active participation and enthusiasm. He emphasized that SIGS is committed to building a world-class graduate school and cultivating international innovative talents. He shared his overseas study experience, encouraged the students to show innovative spirit and cooperation ability in academic exchanges, and establish international friendship. He also welcomed the GSS participants to come to China again in the future and explore deeper into Chinese history and culture.
Prof. Zhongkun Ouyang
As the faculty representative, Prof. Zhongkun Ouyang shared his experience in academic exchanges with GSS participants. He said that he was honored to participate in GSS and interact with international students from different countries after joining Tsinghua SIGS. He hoped that GSS had planted a seed into the students’ hearts and expressed that SIGS is looking forward to seeing more international students on campus in the near future.

GSS student representative, Shadab Abdul Samir, who recently graduated from Tsinghua University with a master’s degree in management science shared: “The Summer School program far exceeded my expectations in every aspect and I am privileged to have been afforded the opportunity to learn from numerous smart, driven and diverse people on and off-campus. As well as providing world-class facilities, incredible management and education, SIGS allowed me to forge deep ties with diverse, creative, hardworking people from over 10 countries and regions around the world. The balance of structured classes, social and cultural events and field trips was extremely helpful in rounding out my first experience of Shenzhen. I now feel that I have an all-inclusive understanding of the city and SIGS, both academically and professionally.”

After the remarks, the professors gave out certificates of participation to the GSS students.
Activity photos
During the two weeks of study and exchange, students participated in various activities including academic lectures, workshops, company visits and cultural visits. SIGS faculty members shared their cutting-edge research results and practical experiences with the students. The students also had in-depth academic discussions and demonstrated innovative thinking. By visiting Shekou Culture and Art Center, Sunrise Art Center, Dafen Oil Painting Village, Nantou Ancient City, Honor, Laihua and other well-known scenic spots and enterprises, GSS participants experienced the cultural development process and cutting-edge technological innovation of Shenzhen.
