The 5th "Tsinghua SIGS International Students & Faculty Enter Chinese Family Life" Intercultural Development Event took place on April 15. Thirty participants, including international students and faculty, Taoyuan Subdistrict Office staff, families from Taoyuan Subdistrict along with staff from the Office of Global Affairs, visited cultural sites and participated in handicraft activities in and around Shenzhen to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen friendly relations between international students and faculty and local families.
During the event, international students and faculty were paired with families from the Taoyuan Subdistrict to participate in activities together. The groups visited the Kuai Zhu Courtyard in Shenzhen’s Guangming District to learn how to make chopsticks and prepare their own local meal. After, participants went to Dongguan’s famous Nan She Ming-Qing Dynasty Village, witnessing elements of Guangdong Province’s Lingnan Culture.
Participating faculty and students were pleased with the event. The families from Taoyuan Subdistrict were also happy to have made international friends through the event and hope that the Taoyuan Subdistrict Office and Tsinghua SIGS will collaborate on organizing more social activities.
The "Tsinghua SIGS International Students & Faculty Enter Chinese Family Life" Intercultural Development Event aims to help our school’s international students and faculty better understand and experience Shenzhen and to advance and promote multicultural exchange. It is one of several joint events organized by the SIGS Office of Global Affairs and the Taoyuan Subdistrict Office that have been going on for three years with over 100 participants. The Office of Global Affairs plans to launch even more cross-cultural events in the future, contributing to building an even more international campus.
