New dorms ready for new student arrival

In anticipation of new student arrival, a newly-built dormitory building in the eastern part of University Town has opened.

The dormitory building floor space is 41,513 ㎡ with over 1100 beds. Facilities in the building include canteens, a coffee shop, an event space, a dance studio, and an exhibition space.

The dormitory building is part of the Tsinghua SIGS Phase 1 Construction Project, a building complex that will also house laboratories and classrooms. The project has a total land area of 23,054 ㎡ and a total floor space area of 156,287㎡. Construction began in October 2018. The structure was topped out in November 2021.

The project was designed by well-known Chinese architect Academician Cui Kai and his team. The building design draws on the “local architecture” style and is integrated with the surrounding mountainous landscape.

The exterior of the structure is inspired by the signature and historic red brick buildings of Tsinghua University, bringing a piece of Tsinghua history to SIGS. Throughout the building complex, the red brick pairs seamlessly with the unique vegetation of the local area.

The dormitory building also features many shared open-air spaces.

Dormitory rooms are single or double occupancy facing north or south. The south side of the building offers unobstructed views of Tanglang Mountain.
