Tsinghua SIGS unveils Institute of Environment and Ecology

A ceremony was held on October 25 to unveil the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS) Institute of Environment and Ecology (iEE).

Attending the event were Hao Jiming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and foreign academician of the American National Academy of Engineering, leadership of SIGS, iEE faculty members, distinguished guests from the government, surrounding universities, corporations and others.

Gao Hong, Executive Dean of SIGS, said in her address that the school places a strong focus on the area of environment and ecology. She hoped that iEE can make full use of the convergence of high-tech enterprises and rapid technological innovation in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay area to attract outstanding scholars and students.

He Kebin, academician of CAE and Dean of iEE, introduced the Institute’s future development plan.

iEE will actively explore ecological and environmental development in the new era, train students with global competence, and provide personnel support for the construction of an ecological civilization, HE said.

Academician Hao Jiming expressed his hope for iEE to build a high-quality faculty team in the future.

Wu Ye, Associate Dean of Tsinghua University’s School of Environment promised that the school will continue to support the development of environmental disciplines at SIGS, and strengthen exchange and interaction.  

Other guests such as Lu Xuyang, Associate Director of the Urban Construction and Environmental Protection Committee of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress and Zhong Hai, Associate Director of Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Committee, put forth expectations for iEE to contribute to the construction of a pilot demonstration zone in Shenzhen, and advance the city’s scientific and technological development, respectively.


After the unveiling ceremony, SIGS also signed agreements with Deland Water Technology Co., Ltd. to establish a joint graduate education base, and with CER Eco-Environment Development Co., Ltd. for a campus water eco-environment treatment project.
