Required Qualifications of Applicants
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. According to Article 3 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, any individual who was a Chinese national and then acquired a foreign nationality shall provide a Certificate of Cancellation of Chinese Household registration issued by the police station where the original household registration is located.
2. Master's degree program applicants should have a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree to a Bachelor's degree (or above) in China. Doctoral degree program applicants should have a Master's degree or an equivalent degree to a Master's degree (or above) in China. Shenzhen International Graduate School accepts bachelor degree holders to pursue doctoral degrees. Applicants must meet all the uniform requirements of the university, as well as the requirements of this school/department listed below: 1. The Minimum Requirement of Undergraduate GPA or Average scores: 3.5/4 or B+ or 85/100; 2. Chinese Proficiency Requirement: HSK band 4 with a score of 195 or above; English program applicants can be exempt from the HSK certificates 3.Non-native English speakers must meet the minimum English proficiency requirement: TOEFL:80/IELTS:6.5.
3. Applicants should be in good health and of good character, be well-behaved and be willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as Tsinghua's rules.
4. The applicant's Chinese proficiency should meet the Chinese proficiency requirements announced by relevant programs in the 'Catalog of Graduate Programs 2021'. Some programs have specific requirements for applicants' academic performance, working years, etc. For relevant information, please refer to the remarks in the 'Catalog of Graduate Programs 2021' and the Admissions Guide of the programs.
Overview of our programs
1. SIGS offers 22 Master’s Programs and 14 Doctoral Programs to international students. Master's degree programs are generally required to be completed in 2-3 years, and Doctoral degree programs in 3-4 years. For students with a Bachelor's degree who move on directly to pursue a Doctoral degree program, the study period is normally 4-5 years.

How to Apply
Applicants should complete an Online Application on THU website (http://gradadmission.tsinghua.edu.cn) during the designated application period. Applicants should fill in the application information online, upload the application documents listed below to the Online Application System, and pay the application fee online at the time of submission.

*The winter break of THU will be from Jan 14,2021 to Feb 19,2021. The application system will still be available during the winter break, but online verification might be delayed due to the vacation. Applicants are therefore recommended to complete their application at least two or three weeks in advance.
Application Documents
Please upload all the documents listed below to the application system:
1. Personal statement. Master's degree program applicants should submit a Personal Statement. Doctoral degree program applicants should submit both a Personal Statement and a brief introduction of their research experience or research plan. (The Personal Statement should be filled out in accordance with the requirements of university template http://gradadmission.tsinghua.edu.cn/f/yzlxs/yz_lxs_kstzb/view?id=499762).
2. Degree certificate. Master's degree program applicants should submit their Bachelor's degree certificate. Doctoral degree program applicants should submit both their Master's and Bachelor's degree certificates. Applicants who will not graduate before the application deadline shall provide the expected graduation certificate first, and the degree diploma must be submitted before registration. (Applicants who have graduated are recommended to provide a certified copy or an authentication of the degree diploma at the same time. The certified copy / authentication and the original degree diploma should be combined into one PDF file and uploaded to the application system. 3. Academic transcript. Master's degree program applicants should submit the academic transcript of their undergraduate study. Doctoral degree program applicants should submit academic transcripts of both graduate and undergraduate studies. Applicants who will not graduate before the application deadline shall provide their current academic transcript. In this case, the completed academic transcript must be submitted before registration.
4. HSK certificate and score report for programs offered in Chinese. For related requirements, please check the program remarks in the 'Catalog of Graduate Programs 2021'. Applicants who complete their undergraduate or master's studies in Chinese must provide a certificate issued by the university they graduated from. After obtaining the permission of the applied school/department, they can be exempted from submitting the HSK score certificate.
5. Two academic recommendation letters from scholars who hold the title of associate professor or higher, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Please follow the instructions on the online system for submission of online recommendation letters or upload the recommendation letters signed by references.
6. Passport personal information page (personal and ordinary passport). (According to Article 3 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, any individual who was a Chinese national and then acquired a foreign nationality shall provide a Certificate of Cancellation of Chinese Household registration issued by the police station where the original household registration is located.)

Application Remarks
1. Applicants are required to submit scanned images of all required documents at the time of application. All uploaded documents should be in Chinese or in English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese or English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations should be submitted together to the application system.
2. Please scan the original or notarized application documents in color using a scanner. Images captured by mobile phone or camera are not acceptable. Scans of copies are also not acceptable.
3. The application fee must be paid at the time the application is submitted. (It cannot be covered by the Chinese Government Scholarship). Please apply online and pay the application fee in a safe place. THU is not responsible for any losses caused by your own operation errors or the leakage of your online payment account and password. Please consider carefully before paying the application fee online. If you cannot finish the application due to various reasons, the paid application fee will not be refunded. Regardless of whether the application is successful or not, the application fee is not refundable.
4. Applications with incomplete documents or without application fee payment will not be processed.
5. SIGS has the right to require applicants to provide original/notarized copies of application materials or certification documents issued by a designated certification body for further inspection.

Evaluation and Admission
1. THU admits students based on evaluation of their application documents together with a comprehensive assessment. The application materials are reviewed by an expert group, and the candidates for the comprehensive assessment will be selected based on the review results. The comprehensive assessment is generally based on interviews. The specific content, format, requirements and time arrangements will be further notified to applicants who enter the comprehensive assessment by SIGS programs.
2. SIGS comprehensively considers the results of material review, comprehensive assessment and other factors, selects the best candidates, and determines the admission list. A Certificate of Admission will be issued by THU Graduate Admissions Office after the final admission result is released. Prior to this, applicants may check their admission status via this Application System.
Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS): The Full CGS usually covers tuition, stipend, on-campus accommodation (or accommodation subsidy), and medical insurance. The Partial CGS includes one or a few items in the Full CGS. Annual Review is strictly required for all CGS holders.
2. Tuition Scholarship: For example, the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students, covers full or partial tuition fee with a duration of one academic year. Applicants may apply for Tuition Scholarships annually (competitive).
3. Financial Aid: SIGS provides living allowance 1000 RMB per month for doctor students and 600 for master’s students.
4. Assistantship: SIGS also offers different assistantship for outstanding students: teaching assistant, research assistant, and management assistant. The compensation for assistantship will not be less than 9,000 RMB/semester for doctor students and 3,000 RMB/semester for master’s students.

Visa Application and Registration
1. Admitted students should apply for a student visa (X1 visa) at the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China in their home country. To apply, students should provide their personal ordinary-type passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201), and original Foreigner Physical Examination Form, as well as other physical examination original documents/reports (applicants should check with the Chinese embassy/consulate for specific requirements). Students must enter China with an ordinary-type passport and X1 visa, and must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days after arrival in China.
2. Normally, SIGS registration will be held in late August at Shenzhen. All students should present the required original degree certificates, and submit the degree authentication issued by degree conferring institutions or authentication institutions upon registration at Tsinghua University for enrollment qualification review. Students who fail the enrollment qualification review will be disqualified from enrollment and study at Tsinghua University.
Accommodation
1. SIGS provide accommodation for all full-time graduate students. School accommodation is automatically reserved for admitted students and students do not to apply on their own. Housing for admitted international students is coordinated by the University Town of Shenzhen (UTSZ). For reference, the housing rate for 2020 is 1000 per month for single bedroom and 500 per month for double bedrooms.
2. Students who wish to live off-campus are required to provide the International Student and Scholar Office (international@sz.tsinghua.edu.cn) with their address, and are responsible for completing a "Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors" within 24 hours of moving in.
