On November 13, the 21st China Hi-Tech Fair opened at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center with the theme of “Invigorating the Greater Bay Area through Opening-up and Innovation”. Tsinghua SIGS, together with Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) and the University Town Management Office held a joint exhibition at the event showcasing latest technology and innovations. The exhibit gained much attention and positive feedback from visitors and media.
Tsinghua SIGS made its debut at the Hi-Tech Fair showcasing 14 research projects in areas such as marine engineering, information technology, high-end biomedical technology and new materials. Emphases were given to the school’s efforts in technology transfer, research and sharing platforms, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship education at SIGS.
Urbane Micro-mobility and Niowis Technology -- two technology companies incubated through the Tsinghua SIGS i-Space project were also shown in the Fair. As one of the top ten innovation and entrepreneurship bases in Shenzhen, Tsinghua SIGS is committed in creating a supportive entrepreneurial environment. This includes expanding functions of the i-Space Maker space, establishing student entrepreneurship funds, launching the “Entrepreneurial Talent Program” and a business incubator. Currently, SIGS offers an incubation space of more than 2,000 square meters for student teams, providing professional support such as entrepreneurship guidance, business counselling, as well as investment and financial docking. The i-Space project has sponsored 35 student entrepreneurship projects, adding up to more than 50 incubation projects with a total valuation of over one billion.
First held in 1999, the China Hi-Tech Fair has developed into the largest and most influential science and technology fair in China. Tsinghua SIGS’ participation shows its speed in responding to the developmental needs of emerging industries, and its commitment in transforming research to products that benefit the public and the City.
